M Thennarasan, a tough official to deal with

The Ombudsman

With the Gujarat state assembly elections at the corner, the state government is forced to make reshuffle in its administrative structures across the region and following this the year 2000 batch IAS officer M Thennarasan has been deputed as new civic chief of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. Though there are many challenges before him,  since Thennarasan had worked with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation as deputy municipal commissioner, he is likely to over come them easily.

M Thennarasan has replaced his predecessor Lochan Sehra. Ahmedabad being at the 18th spot of the Swachh Survekshan 2022, there are more challenges against the new civic chief.

He  is considered as a tough official who does not believe in giving up. During his tenure as civic chief of Surat, he had taken stern actions against illegal construction and building without Building Use permission.

Officials call him a tough official to deal with.

Thennarsan began his career as an assistant collector at Gandhinagar and later as a deputy collector of Vyara in Tapi district from 2002 to 2004. He also served as a district collector of Banaskantha and Sabarkantha.

When Guruprasad Mohapatra was heading the civic body of Ahmedabad, he was one of his trusted men who he could rely upon.

“In last couple of years, Ahmedabad city has seen many changes as far as the civic chief’s position is concern and due to instability of this position there could not be proper development. New officials come and before they even understand they were transferred which hampered developmental works,” said an official on condition of anonymity.

“Since he is well acquitted with the system and Ahmedabad city, he is not going to take much time in executing the plans which were chocked up until now,” another officials added.
