Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has made an important decision to direct Narmada water to farmers and citizens of the Saurashtra region. Following substantial rainfall in the upstream areas of the Narmada Dam, the water level in the Sardar Sarovar Dam has risen. This surplus water is channeled to the reservoirs in Saurashtra. The state government has developed a plan to supply Narmada water with a total of 40 reservoirs across the districts of Surendranagar, Rajkot, Morbi, Botad, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, and Amreli in Saurashtra through four pipelines of the SAUNI (Saurashtra-Narmada Avataran Irrigation) scheme. Currently, 1,300 cusecs of water are being transported via these pipelines, and the process has begun to transport 1,300 cusecs of water through these pipelines to the reservoirs. Gradually, this will be increased to over 2,000 cusecs to ensure the water reaches the reservoirs in Saurashtra in the coming days. If the monsoon is delayed, approximately 600 check dams and lakes in these districts are also planned to be filled under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. At present, reservoirs reserved for drinking water are being prioritized.
