A very severe cyclonic storm with winds gusting up to 185 km per hour began making landfall on the Gujarat coast Monday night. Over 1.5 lakh people have been evacuated safely in the state. The centre of the cyclone will cross Saurashtra coast to the east of Diu within next three hours, said the India Meteorological Department.
According to IMD, the cyclone is gusting towards the northern part of the Gujarat with the speed of 17 km/hr and heavy to very heavy rains are likely in those parts of the region.
According to an advisory, people are advised to stay indoors and lock their doors and windows during night hours so as to stay secure.
Speaking to media chief minister Vijay Rupani said, “areas which would be highly affected by the cyclone are Gir – Somnath, Amreli, Junagadh and Bhavnagar. We have also made arrangements with Air Force to airlift trapped people from affected areas.
