In a major decision taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat government has announced an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees, in accordance with the Central Government’s norms, effective from January 1, 2025.

The decision will benefit approximately 4.78 lakh government employees—including those under the Sixth and Seventh Pay Commissions across State Services, Panchayat Services, and others—as well as 4.81 lakh pensioners.

Health Minister and State Government Spokesperson Rishikesh Patel, while announcing this employee-friendly decision taken under the Chief Minister’s leadership, said:

  • For employees receiving benefits under the Seventh Pay Commission, DA has been increased by 2%.
  • For those under the Sixth Pay Commission, DA has been increased by 6%.

The minister further added that the arrears for the DA difference for the three-month period from January 1 to March 31, 2025, will be paid in a single installment along with the April 2025 salary.

This increase in DA will benefit a combined total of 4.78 lakh active employees and approximately 4.81 lakh pensioners under the state government, Panchayat services, and others.

Additionally, the government will disburse around ₹235 crore as arrears and bear an additional annual financial burden of ₹946 crore towards salaries, allowances, and pensions, the spokesperson noted.

To implement this decision, the Finance Department has been directed to issue the necessary orders, said Minister Rishikesh Patel, emphasizing the government’s commitment to employee welfare under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership.
